RAJKOT: A pregnant woman committed suicide here on Sunday. The woman's parents have accused her in- laws of harassing Neelam Gondaliya,29, for dowry. Gandhigram police have registered a case against the deceased's in-laws and begun investigation.
Neelam, a resident of Trikon Park on Raiya Road, was found hanging from the ceiling at her in-laws' house.
She married Tushar Gondaliya one and a half years ago. She was a teacher in a school at nearby Kuvadava village .
Gandhigram police sub-inspector B B Dodiya said Neelam's widowed mother has lodged a complaint against Tushar and his parents for abetment to suicide and under various sections of the Dowry Act and Domestic Violence Act. Tushar, his father Hari, mother Meena and sisters Bhumika and Bhavini have been named as accused. They have been accused of causing physical and mental torture to Neelam for dowry.
Neelam's father had died sometime ago. Her mother had received his insurance money which Neelam's in-laws wanted to be given to them. The deceased had visited her mother a fortnight ago and complained about the torture she was undergoing for insurance money. Her mother consoled her and said she will discuss this with her in-laws .
On Sunday morning, she once again telehoned her mother and requested to take her home. Her mother told her that she would come and sort out the things. Shortly afterwards, she received the news of her daughter's suicide, Dodiya said.
